How to Open AI Files Without Adobe Illustrator

Despite being the default format, it turns out that there are many ways to open AI files without Adobe Illustrator. So don't worry you won't be able to see the file because there are several alternatives that you can use.
Talking about vector image processing software, it won't be far from what is called Adobe Illustrator. Because of its popularity, this application has made the AI format one of the standards for saving vector images.
If you've ever downloaded from a vector image provider site, generally you'll get a file in AI format which is the native format of Adobe Illustrator.
Even so, not everyone has the software. Besides that, it seems that not everyone can use the vector illustration software.
Luckily there are several ways to open AI files without Adobe Illustrator. Not only can you see the final result, you can also edit it like a vector image in general.
Convert AI Format To PDF
The easiest way to view the contents of an AI file without Adobe Illustrator is to rename the format to PDF. That way you can open it using PDF Reader software such as Sumatra PDF or Slim PDF.
To rename a file format on a PC, you must disable the option “hide extensions for known file types.” If not, please follow these steps:
- Click the Start menu and then look for the File Explorer Options menu
- Go to the View tab and then uncheck the option Hide extensions for known file types
- Click OK
- If so, open the AI file and then delete the AI format with PDF. For example, image.AI becomes image.pdf
- Once done save and open the PDF file to view it
Open AI File in Photoshop
Both are Adobe output, Illustrator files can also be opened using the Photoshop application. Unfortunately the AI file opened in the Photoshop application will not display the layers used in the AI file. So when opened the vector image will be rasterized into one image only. Even so Photoshop can still recognize the transparent background used in Illustrator.

One disadvantage of the previous three methods is that there is no option to be able to edit the AI file first. If you don't have Adobe Illustrator software on your PC, you can install a free application on Android to edit it.

- Open the EPS to EMF Converter online application

- Download the converted EMF file
- Open the Powerpoint app
- Go to the Insert menu Pictures then select the EMF file earlier
