As previously discussed, Metaverse is an alternative digital reality that uses an internet connection where humans can 'live' and interact in it like social media today.

There will be a 3D virtual world that we can explore using VR glasses where we will be represented through an avatar. We will be able to do activities that can be done in the real world, such as chatting with other avatars, working, studying, playing, attending concerts, and even buying and selling. Digital products on the Metaverse will follow as they are today, such as land, homes, and means of transportation.

This pattern has begun to be commonly implemented by various software developers and technology companies. For example Workplace from Meta integrates with Microsoft Teams which supports work and collaboration activities.

This collaboration will allow Teams or Workplace users to interact in real-time such as viewing documents, leaving comments, and holding meetings without having to switch between applications, just like working as usual in the office. In addition, well-known fashion houses such as Gucci have also started to apply this concept in selling their products.

In May, Gucci partnered with Roblox, an online gaming platform, through a 2-week virtual Gucci Garden program where players can purchase 31 Gucci brand items through the virtual currency 'Robux'.

What's the Technology Behind the Metaverse

The Metaverse concept itself has long been developed by several large technology companies. Like Cisco and IBM, it turned out that they had tried to develop this concept several years ago.

However, because the technology is not adequate and the use of AR & VR technology is not as widely known by the public as it is now, the development of this technology does not provide satisfactory results.

Currently, the necessary technology and tools are available and are growing so that the development of the Metaverse can be continued.

Virtual Reality (VR) tools are also needed that can demonstrate or give real sensations to virtual objects or environments experienced by users, such as VR glasses or VR headsets.

Meta also announced its newest product, namely a glove that functions as a VR controller while allowing users to feel the texture and movement of objects held in the virtual world. Then, Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies are also needed in the development of this new universe. AR serves to project virtual things to be in the real world, while AI is used to imitate human cognitive functions. Finally, to complete the user experience of carrying out activities in this virtual world, of course a payment instrument is needed which is most likely to use crypto currency.

Is Metaverse Safe Or Will It Be a Threat?

Undeniably, the Metaverse is a very progressive and extraordinary technological innovation. With the existence of buying and selling activities using virtual currencies, it is possible that many people will depend on this technology for their income.

However, the application of ethics and legal rules for users must be made clearly and monitored very carefully in order to protect the security of user data and information.

Like other technological innovations, the Metaverse will become commonplace in the near future even though it still feels foreign at the moment. Metaverse makes the internet feel more real and will affect all aspects of human life.

Technological developments cannot be avoided and we must always be able to adapt, or at least, be ready and understand the changes that occur.
